All the protagonists of the 2017 edition have become professionals
The Enel Under-23 Giro d’Italia as a breeding ground for talents. The professional teams have bought up the riders who emerged in the youth race that returned to the roads this year after a 10-year absence, as shown by the fact that 9 out of the first 10 riders in the standings have already got a professional contract in 2018.
The most-talked about transfer was undoubtedly that of Pavel Sivakov, 2017 Enel Pink Jersey, to Team Sky, the richest and most competitive team in the World Tour circuit. We expect to see Pavel become one of the key riders of the 2018 season.
But the world of great cycling did not open up just to Sivakov: the US rider Neilson Powless, winner of the first stage at Imola with the Axeon Hagens Berman team, has joined Team LottoNL-Jumbo in the Netherlands; the Australian Lucas Hamilton, second placed and winner of the time trial race at Campocavallo, moves from Mitchelton Scott to the “first team” of his country, ….
